I’m a purger, much to my husband, the hoarders, dismay. I love to clean things out, he likes to keep things. Sometimes we strike a harmonious balance, sometimes (“honey, where is my match collection I’ve had since high school?”) not so much. I know most folks don’t like change. I do, as long as I have some control of it that is. For example, changing the location of our furniture in our house, or changing my hair. Change that is out of my control, like having to move from need not want, or getting an illness, that type of change, I can do without. I’m quite used to change and sometimes need it. As a child our family moved every 2 years or so, new house, new neighborhood, new state, new country, new schools, new friends. A lot of change, NOT in my control. However, I learned to adapt, be flexible and to adjust to many different life situations as a result.
With change, knowing what you like, what you want and don’t want, and what you want to change and why are all important components to controllable change. Many of us grudgingly accept that there is some need for change. As one friend expressed it, “If it turns out I really have to change, I’ll change.” I think if we wait to change until forced, it may be too late. Waiting until change is forced upon us is losing that all important “controllable” piece. While this may get us so far for a while, it eventually can lead to a feeling of spinning and to a reactionary way of life. Generating fresh ideas and outstanding creativity while under stress of forced change can be a recipe for disaster.
With my high tolerance and sometimes high need for (controllable) change, it is in amazement to myself that I have been consistently running Bali Malas/Wear Peacefor almost seven years! May not seem long to some, but for me, the “what’s next” type of gal that I am, that’s quite a long time. I’m also surprised that we’ve kept with some of the same designs for so long. So, in the spirit of the type of change in our control, I think it is time for some new. Bali Malas is excited to be designing our own exclusive line of rudraksha, rudrani, tulsi, malas/bracelets/jewelry. We hope to launch the collection this spring (look for it on the solstice). We’d love for you to be part of our change, part of the new, enter our “change giveaway” below!
As Ziggy Stardust (aka David Bowie) once said…. “Turn and face the strange Ch-ch-changes Pretty soon now you’re gonna get older. Time may change me, But I can’t trace time. Ch ch changes.”
